What Is a Pondless Waterfall?
A pondless waterfall is exactly what it sounds like — a waterfall with no standing pond. Water cascades down natural stone and disappears into a gravel-filled underground basin, where a hidden pump recirculates it back to the top. The result is a beautiful, realistic waterfall with no visible body of water.
Pondless systems have become one of our most requested installations on Long Island — and for good reason. They solve every objection homeowners have about traditional ponds: too much maintenance, safety concerns around children, not enough yard space, or too much of a time commitment.
Why Choose a Pondless Waterfall?
- No standing water means no safety risk for children or pets
- Dramatically lower maintenance than a traditional pond (no fish, no filter cleaning, no algae battles)
- Works in smaller yards where a full pond wouldn't fit
- Perfect for seasonal Hamptons homes — easy to shut down and restart
- All the sound and visual impact of a waterfall, minus the complexity
- Can be expanded into a full pond later if you change your mind
Our Pondless Waterfall Designs
We build pondless waterfalls in a wide range of styles and sizes — from a compact single-tier feature tucked into a garden corner to a dramatic multi-tier cascade spanning 20+ feet. Every design uses natural boulders and stone selected for a completely organic look. We design the water flow, stone placement, and surrounding plantings so the waterfall looks as though it belongs naturally in your landscape.

Pondless systems are the lowest-maintenance water feature we install. There are no fish, no biological filtration to manage, and no water quality balancing act. The main tasks are: topping off the basin periodically (evaporation), an annual cleaning of the basin and pump, and a simple shutdown and restart at the beginning and end of each season. We offer seasonal maintenance packages that cover all of this for Hamptons and Long Island clients who want zero hassle.

Pondless Waterfall FAQs
How much does a pondless waterfall cost on Long Island?
Most pondless waterfall installations on Long Island run between $4,000–$12,000 depending on size and complexity. A small, single-tier system might start around $3,500. A large multi-tier cascade with extensive stone work runs higher. Angelo gives you a firm quote after seeing your property.
Can I convert a pondless waterfall into a full pond later?
Yes — and we design our pondless systems with this in mind. If you later decide you want a koi pond, we can excavate below the existing basin and expand the system. It's a common upgrade path for our clients.
How long does pondless waterfall installation take?
Most pondless waterfall installations are completed in 1–2 days. Larger multi-tier builds may take 3 days. It's one of the fastest water feature installations we do.
